5~e City of Portsmouth, Virginia~ for value received, acknowledges ~-ftself indebted and hereby promises to pay to the bearer, or, if this note be ~egistered, ~o the registered owner hereof, the.principal sum of · together with interest thereon from date hereof until payment of ~ principal sum, at the rate of five and ninety-five hundredths per centum per armu~. Both principal of and interest on th~s note are payable on March 2, 1970, upon presentation and sm~render of this note, at the principal · office of First _& Merehar~s National Bank, Richmond, Virginia, in any coin or currency which on said date is legal tender for payment of public and private debts. 5his note is issued pursuant to CTmpter 5 of Title 15ol of the Cede of Virginia, 1950, as amended: and a Resolution adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, on June 30, 1969~ u~er said Chapter, in anticipation of the ~uance of a iike~principal amount of general obligation bonds authorized to be issued by Ordinance No. 1968-87 adopted by said Council under said Chapter on December I?, 1968, smd of the receipt of proceeds of sale of such bonds. The full faith and credit of the City of por~csmouth, Virglnia~ are pledged for the uayment of the principal and interest hereof. ~s note may be registered as to principal and interest in accordance with the provisions for registration'and transfer endorsed~on the reverse hereof.
