A RESOLUTION APPOIR~ING THE SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA REGIONAL PLANNING CO~f~iSSION AS AGENT OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH FOR DEVELOP~T OF A COMPREHENSIVE REGIONAL LAW ENFORCemeNT PLAN. WHEREAS, there is an Urgent need for' the development of a comprehen- - sire law enforcement plan on a regional basis~ to complement the state and - WHEREAS, the Federal Government has, under the ~mnibus ~rime Control ~Safe Streets Act of 1968 determined to ]aid States, special regions and ocalities in solving law enforcement problems smd ha~ prOvided that, certain funds be set aside for this purpose; and 2.-4 _W~ .? .t~he, y. irgini.a Law' Enforcement'Ad~dr~stration in implement- ing '~'lt±e ± or the Omnibus Cr~me ContrOl and Safe Streets Act of 1968 has requested.the Southeastern Virginia RegiOnal Plann~n~ C~ nate . . -----~ ........... to coordi- the development of a Comprehensive Regional Law Fmforcement Plan. ' NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED~ that the City oflpo~ts~1outh hereby appoints the Southeastern Virginia Regional Planning Commission as its agent to develop a C~nprehensive Regional Law Enforcement Plan and assures the Commission ~hat its duly appointed representativek t6 the Regional Advisory C~ittee and Policy Committee on Law and Order will cooperate, in every way to develop a sound and functional plan for this region. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Southeastern Virginia Regiorml Plan- ning Commission is authorized to obt~ ....... x - ~, ~,~=,~ ~, ~n~ oz ~n~s poIitical suo~ws~on z-or the development of the plan from any State or' Federal source available. ~nis political subdivision] however, shall incur no obligation to fund the implementation of said plan until the plan has been fully develop- ed, properly submitted to this jurisdiction for its a~proval and finally adopt- ed. -Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held April 22, 1969.
