A RESOLUTION CO~DRATING THE LIFE' O!~ REAR <br />JOHN W. W. C%~¢4ING, Uk~'±~O S~-ATES NAVY, RETIP~D. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this City and Comonwealth lost an outstanding citizen <br />and beloved son upon the death of John W. W. Cu~, Rear Admiral, <br />United States Navy, Retired; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the naval career of Admiral Cumming, spanning more <br />than forty years as he rose fr~m ~idshipman to Flag Officer, was <br />an example of achievement in the best traditions of the Naval <br />Service; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Admiral Cumming's continued contributions to the <br />furtherance of good citizenship and patriotism, during themany <br />years since his retirament from active duty, will stand as last- <br />ing memorials to his life of devoted service; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is the desire of this municipality to pay tribute <br />to a great man and console his.family in this t~me of sorrow. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, acting on behalf of all ou~ citizens, that <br />heartfelt sympathy be hereby extended to the family of the late <br />John W. W.
