26 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION FOR SUCCESSFUL CONDUCT OF NATIONAL <br />PORTSMOUTH SEAWALL ART SHOW UNDER AUSPICES OF PORTSMOUTH RE- <br />CREATION DEPARTMENT, DOWNTOWN MERCHANTS ASSOCIATION, AND PORTS- <br />MOUTH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Portsmouth Seawall Art Show, held <br />during the Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29 inclusive, drew more <br />than 200 competing amateur and professional artists from eight <br />states, demostrating its high repute through increase in com- <br />petitors and in numbers of exhibits; and <br /> <br /> ?~EREAS, Mrs. Ellen Wise, supervisor of Special Act- <br />ivities from the Recreational Department, provided as coordi- <br />nator of this 2nd annual art show, the leadership and guidance <br />which not only attracted these artists but earned plaudits <br />for its conduct and success; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The Downtown Merchants Association and the <br />Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce jointly have undertaken the <br />guarantee of prize awards in each of the successful years of <br />operation and through their efforts brought to our City <br />favorable publicity and attention, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, that appreciation be conveyed through this <br />resolution to those responsible for the Seawall Art Show not <br />only for the encouragement it provides competing young artists <br />but also the aesthetic success attained for our City. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be made <br />a part of the permanent records of this City and that the City <br />Clerk be directed to forward copies to Mrs. Ellen Wise, The <br />Downtown Merchants Association, The Portsmouth Chamber of <br />Commerce, and the Recreation and Parks Commission. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held June 13, 1972. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
