RESOLUTION URGING A HALT IN ACROSS-THE-BOARD REDUCTIONS IN <br />FORCES AT TIDEWATER MILITARY INSTALLATIONS. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the United <br />numerous military and defense <br />Tidewater area; and <br /> <br />States Government has located <br />support installations in the <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, efficient national defense is one of the <br />greatest responsibilities of the Unites States Government; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, current federal policies designed to re- <br /> duce civilian forces in local military establishments have <br /> resulted in the placing of employees in positions for which <br /> they are not qualified, thus jeopardizing the national de- <br /> fense effort, as well as damaging the local economy. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council <br /> does hereby express its disapproval of the policy of across- <br /> the-board reductions in forces at local military bases as <br /> contrary to national and local interests; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Council earnestly <br />petitions the cognizant officials of the United States Government <br />to reconsider and reverse this unwise policy of across-the- <br />board reduction in forces, and the City Clerk is hereby di- <br />rected to forward a certified copy of this resolution to <br />each member of the Virginia Congressional delegation. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia at a meeting held May 9, 1972. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
