RESOLUTION COMMENDING CLARENCE "ACE" PARKER ON THE OCCASION OF <br />HIS INDUCTION INTO THE PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Clarence "Ace" Parker began his distinguished <br />career at Woodrow Wilson High School where he was All-American, <br />and continued his exploits as an All-American football player <br />at Duke University, resulting in his selection to the College <br />Football Hall of Fame in 1955; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he entered professional football as the first <br />draft choice of the Brooklyn Dodgers of the old National Football <br />League and embarked upon his illustrious professional football <br />career spanning many years; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Clarence "Ace" Parker has distinguished him- <br />self in the sports of golf and baseball as well as football, and <br />has played major league baseball; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he continued in football as a Coach at Duke <br />University and the University of North Carolina and is currently <br />serving as a scout for the San Francisco 49'ers; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he has achieved a pre-eminent position in the <br />world of sports through his recent election to the professional <br />Football Hall of Fame; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that Clarence "Ace" Parker is <br />hereby recognized for his remarkable achievements in several <br />sports and that this Council does further congratulate "Ace" <br />Parker on the occasion of his selection to the Professional Foot- <br />ball Hall of Fame; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution <br />be presented to Clarence "Ace" Parker and that it be made a part <br />of the permanent records of this city. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held February 22, 1972. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
