3 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE AMENDMENT OF THE VIRGINIA FREEDOM <br />OF tNFO~5%TION ACT TO PROVIDE FOR APPLICATION OF THE ACT TO <br />DELIBERATIONS OF STANDING AND OTHER CO~;~ITTEES OF THE GENERAL <br />ASSEMBLY OF VIRGINIA. <br /> <br /> WEEF~AS, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act has <br />served to bring about a relationship of open communication be- <br />tween the Municipal Governments of the State and the constitu- <br />ents thereof; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act as <br />presently adopted has no application to the deliberations of <br />the standing and other committees of the General Assembly of <br />Virginia, except that final votes thereof shall be taken in <br />open meetings; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Municipal League has taken a <br />position in support of the amendment of the Virginia Freedom <br />of Information Act to include deliberation of committees of <br />the Virginia General Assembly. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the General Assembly of Vir- <br />ginia zs urged to amend the Virgznia Freedom of Information Act <br />to provide for application of the Act to deliberations of the <br />standing and other committees of the General Assembly of Virginia. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and <br />he hereby is, directed to forward copies of this resolution <br />to The Honorable Willard J. Moody, The Honorable L. Cleaves <br />Manning, The Honorable John S. Joannou, The Honorable Joseph <br />W.
