17 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THIS COUNCIL AND <br />THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH FOR JOSEPH E. PARKER, SR.; DESIGNATING <br />THE GY_WLNASIUM PORTION OF THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED RECREATION <br />FACILITY IN THE MOUNT HE~ON REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT AS THE <br />JOSEPH E. PARKER, SR. GYMNASIUM. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Joseph E. Parker, Sr. has devoted enumerable <br />hours of time and effort to promote the development of <br />improved conditions for the citizens of the City of Portsmouth, <br />and, specifically, the Mount Hermon Community; and <br /> W~E~EAS~ Joseph E. Parker, Sr. has lent his considerable <br />talents to the tasks to be performed by many boards and co~missions <br />of the City of Portsmouth; and <br /> WHEREAS~ Joseph E. Parker, Sr. has traveled extensively <br />throughout the country to promote the City of Portsmouth and <br />~the.~iount Hermon Co~unity; and <br /> <br /> W~EREAS, Joseph E. Parker, Sr. has-given many hours of his <br /> time ~o counseling of families and individuals in connection <br /> with ~ae Mount ~e~mon Redevelopment Project; and <br /> ~qT~REAS, Joseph E. Parker, Sr., his wife Alice and <br /> seven children have all demonstrated an Unselfish co~/~unity <br /> spirit in devoting their efforts for the benefit of their <br /> neighbors in the come, unity. <br /> NO?~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br /> of Portsmouth that the appreciation of this Council and the <br /> citizens of the City of Portsmouth for Joseph E. Parker, Sr. <br /> be hereby expressed this 29th day of January, 1981, by designat- <br /> ing the gymnasium portion of the newly constructed recreation <br /> facility in the Mount Hermon Redevelopment Project as the <br /> Joseph E. Parker, Sr. Gymnasium. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOL\~D that the City Clerk be, and she <br /> hereby is, instructed to forward a copy of this resolution <br /> to Joseph E. Parker, Sr. and his family and to cause a <br /> suitable plaque evidencing this designation u be placed in <br /> this facility. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> Virginia, at a meeting held February 10, 1981. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
