A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING DR. EMIL S.~ SAYEGH FOE <br />PORTSMOUTH'S FIRST CITIZEN FOR 1982. <br /> <br /> ~6 <br />BEING NAMED <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it was recently announced that Dr~ Emil S. <br />Sayegh has been chosen by a panel of past Pirst Citizen <br />Award winners as the recipient of the Portsmouth First <br />Citizen Award for 1982 given annually'by the Portsmouth <br />Moose Lodge No. 898; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this award is given annually to those citizens <br />whose goals and accomplishments transcend the routines of <br />everyday llfe and who have exhibited an extraordinary history <br />of community service, professional advancement and humanitarian <br />skills; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, like most previous winners Dr. Sayegh has his <br />list of credentials showing how active he has been including <br />membership on the Board of both Maryview and Portsmouth <br />General Hospitals, past president of the Portsmouth Academy <br />of Medicine, medical representative for the Portsmouth Area <br />United Way, past chairman of the Portsmouth Fine Arts Commission, <br />past chairman of the medical staffs of both Maryview and <br />Portsmouth General Hospitals, chairman of the Academic Medical <br />Society and service on the Boards of the ?idewater Kidney <br />Foundation, the Hampton Roads Foreigh Affairs Council and the <br />Portsmouth Area United Fund; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. Sayegh came to Tidewater with the United <br /> States Navy in 1957 and, now at age 70, continues an active <br />. medical practice and is a member of the Faculty Senate at <br /> Eastern Virginia Medical School; and <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, while exhibiting a full and producti.ve career, <br />he has served in many se%tings aimed at enhancing the quality <br />of life for all our citizens; and <br /> <br /> ¥~EREAS, Dr. Sayegh will be honored at a dinner in April <br />and will receive the First Citizen Award for 1982. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth that it hereby recognizes and congratulates Dr. <br />Emil S. Sayegh upon the occasion of his receipt of the First <br />Citizen Award for 1982. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Council expresses its <br />admiration, appreciation and esteem 'to Dr. Emil S. Sayegh for <br />his many contributions to the %~elfare of the City of Portsmouth <br />and that this resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council <br />and that a copy thereof b~ presented to him in recognition <br />of his service to this comraunity. <br /> <br /> <br />
