A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR FUNDING TO THE VIRGINIA DIVISION OF PARKS AND RECREATION, TO ENTER I~TO SUCH AGREEMENTS AS MAY BE NECESSARY, AND TO PROVIDE THE FUNDS NEEDED AS THE LOCAL S~IARE OF THE COST OF THE IMPROVED PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the Virginia Division of Parks and Recreation provides funds to assist political subdivisions of the Common- wealth of Virginia to develop outdoor fitness facilities; and WHEREAS, there are urgent needs within the City of Ports- mouth to develop a fitness walking trail for senior citizens in City Park wh±ch is located within the City of Portsmouth, and that the development of such facility is deemed a high priority by the City; and WHEREAS, in order to attain funding assistance from the Virginia Division of Parks and Recreation, it is necessary that the City guarantee a proportionate share of the costs thereof; and WHEREAS, the proportionate share to be funded by the Virginia Division of Parks and Recreation is three thousand dollars ($3,000), and the remainder of costs, including the value of volunteer labor required for a portion of the in- stallation, to be provided by the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to cause such information or materials as may be necessary to be provided to the appropriate State Agency, and to enter into such agreements as may be necessary to permit the formulation, approval and funding of the Fitness Trail Project. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Ports- mouth, that the City shall, and hereby gives, its assurances that all applicable state and federal regulations governing such expenditure of funds provided by the Virginia Division of Parks and Recreation will be complied with in the administration of th£s project, and that the City shall provide the funds need- ed as the local share of the cost of the approved program up to fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500) to he p~ovided as follows: The City of Portsmouth - $ 750.00; Olive Branch Forum - 750.00;
