A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE CONTRIBUTIONS MADE TO THE <br />QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA BY THE <br />CENTRAL CIVIC FORUM ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR40TE ANNIVERSARY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Central Civic Forum will celebrate its <br /> 40th Anniversary on August 25, 1984; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, ~unchanged over the 40 years is the Group's <br /> purpose as stated in " <br /> its Constltutzon; To provide leadership <br /> in all matters affecting the political, social, civic and <br /> moral welfare 'of the City, and provide a public forum for <br /> the 'exchange of ~deas and oplnionsof general public interest"; <br /> and <br /> <br /> ~ ~HEREAS, the'Central Civic Forum over the years has <br /> aimed its efforts at voter registration, police-community <br /> reIations, education, recreation, public health and safety, / <br /> ~ven. le deIlnquency, child care and transportation ~ssues~ <br /> and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the. Central Civic Forum has lobbied tirelessly <br /> to assure- he iect~on and appointment of'black citizens of <br /> thfs City to responsible positions and has provided a training <br /> ground for young black citizens who aspire to political or <br /> other leadership roles in the C±ty; and <br /> <br /> WHERF~$, the 'Central Civic Forum has expanded from a <br />.group of three civic leagues to an umbrella organization <br /> whfchembrace~.nine 'civic leagues representing 80% of the <br /> City's black population; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Central Civic Forum has, through its~ <br />~ndertaking~, fostered mutua~ understanding and respect <br />'among the'citizens of this C~ty; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Central Civic Forum has been a positive <br />factor in the improvement of the quality of life for the <br />citizens of this City. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFQRE, BE 1T RESODVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth ~hat this Council, on behalf of the <br />citizens of the City of Portsmouthr recognize the contri- <br />butions made 'to the quality of life within the City of <br />Portsmouth by the Central Civic Forum on the%occasion mark- <br />ing their 40tk anniversary. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that' this resolution be spread <br />upon the' Minutes of the Council of the City, and that a copy <br />thereof be presented on behalf of the City of Portsmouth to <br />the Central Civic Forum. <br /> <br /> <br />
