AN ORDINA~CE TO ~[END THE CODE OF TEE CITY OF <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 2Q-9 AND <br />PERTAINING TO BUSINESS LICENSES. <br /> <br />PORTSMOUTH, <br />20-38 THEREOF, <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> !. That Section 20-9 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, be amended and re0rdained to read as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Section 20-9. Fine for not making application. <br /> <br /> Any person doing business, carrying on any trade or <br />calling~ or practicing any profession within the City, and <br />any person who shall open an office for a place of business, <br />or who shall by use of signs or otherwise advertise any <br />trade, business or profession within said City, who fails to <br />make application to the Commissioner of the Revenue for the <br />license due under this Chapter, shall upon conviction thereof <br />be fined not more than five hundred dollars ($500), as the <br />judge or jury may determine. <br /> <br /> 2. That Section 20-38 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginma, 1973, be amended and reordained to <br />read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 20-38. Penalty for failure to file statement or <br /> making false statement. <br /> <br /> Any person subject to the payment of a license tax <br />required under this Chapter who shall fail or refuse to file <br />the statement or statements required by this Chapter, or, <br />who shall make any false statement in the affidavit required <br />by this Chapter, shall upon conviction thereof be fined not <br />more than five hundred dollars ($500), as the judge or jury <br />may determine. <br /> <br /> 3. This ordinance shall take effect from the date of <br />it adoption. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia~ at a meeting held August 28, 1984. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />C~ty Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
