AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 40-285 (10), 40-290 <br />(d), AND 40-288 PERTAINING TO THE REGULATION OF SIGNS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia: <br /> 1. That Sections 40-285 (10), 40-290 (2), and 40-288 <br />of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia 1973, be <br />amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br /> Section 40-285. General Regulations- <br /> The following general regulations shall apply to all signs <br /> within the City of Portsmouth: <br /> <br /> (10) Temporary signs may be utilized to announce any <br /> public, charitable, educationable or religious event or function <br /> entirely within the premises of the institution; provided such <br /> sign is-not erected more than thirty (30) days before the event <br /> or function, and is removed within three (3) days after the <br /> event or function; provided further such sign must conform %o <br /> %he dimensional requirements set forth in ~40-283 (j). <br /> Section 40-290. Same On Premises Signs. <br /> For all on premises signs, the following dimensional and <br /> set back requirements shall apply: <br /> (d) Shopping centers, which includes all grouping of <br /> businesses sharing a com~on entry and exit to a site, shall <br /> be limited to one (1) above-ground or ground shopping center <br /> identification sign for each principal entrance- Additional <br /> wall and window signs shall be permitted based on actual build- <br /> ing frontage as related to the dimensional requirements herein. <br /> <br /> Section 40-288. Zoning Regulations. <br /> No signs shall be permitted in those zoning districts <br /> deisgnated NP in this section. <br /> A use permit (UP) or a certificate of compliance (CC) <br /> shall be required for the erection, alteration, repair or <br /> relocation of all nonexempt signs in the City, as provided <br /> herein: <br /> <br /> <br />
