125 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE "PORTSMOUTH FAMILY-COMMUNITY TASK <br />FORCE" AND SUPPORTING ITS FIGHT AGAINST THE ABUSE OF DRUGS <br />AND ALCOHOL IN THIS COMMUNITY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a group of ccncerned citizens came together on <br />September 16, 1986 to express concern and address the issues <br />which confront our community with respect to the abuse of <br />drugs and alcohol among our young people; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, these citizens recognized that a high <br />percentage of crimes committed within the City are a direct <br />result of the abuse of alcohol and other illicit drugs by <br />our young people; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the citizens joined to form the "Portsmouth <br />Family-Community Task Force" and made a commitment to <br />organize and impress upon the citizens of this City the need <br />to become active participants in a fight against illegal <br />drugs and alcohol abuse; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth <br />recognizes that the abuse of drugs and alcohol among our <br />citizens tends to disrupt the quality of life of the <br />citizens of this City and endorses an all out citizen fight <br />against illegal drugs and alcohol abuse. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth endorses the formation of the "Portsmouth <br />Family-Community Task Force" and calls upon the citizens of <br />this City to assist the Task Force in any way possible to <br />assure a citizens victory in the fight against illegal drugs <br />and alcohol abuse. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council o~ the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia at a meeting held December 9, 1986. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
