105 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING CERTAIN PROPERTY FOR DEVELOPMENT OF <br />THE MONITOR-MERRIMACK (CSS VIRGINIA) MUSEUM. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by resolution adopted January 14, 1986, the <br />Council of the City of Portsmouth endorsed the concept of <br />creating a new Portsmouth History Museum to be named the USS <br />Monitor-Merrimack (CSS Virginia) Museum and authorized <br />application to the National Ocean and Atmospheric <br />Administration to house the artifacts from the USS Monitor <br />in said Museum; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by ordinance adopted January 28, 1986, the <br />Council of the City of Portsmouth commissioned a study by E. <br />Verner Johnson & Associates, Inc. to evaluate certain sites <br />pertaining to the location of said Museum; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, said study has designated the <br />hereinafter-described property as the preferred site; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Museum and Fine Arts Commission and the <br />Museum Expansion and Long-Range Planning Committtee have <br />endorsed the designation of said site; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth deems it <br />to be in the best interest of the City to officially <br />designate said site for the location and development of the <br />new Museum. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the hereinafter-described <br />property be, and the same hereby is, officially designated <br />as the site for the location and development of the USS <br />Monitor-Merrimack (CSS Virginia) Museum: <br /> <br /> Ail that certain piece or parcel of land, <br />situate, lying and being in the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia, bounded on the south by Wythe <br />Street; on the east by First Street; on the <br />north by property of the Virginia Department <br />of Highways and Transportation; and on the west <br />by Second Street as said street would be ex- <br />tended in a northerly direction beyond its inter- <br />section with Wythe Street. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia at a meeting held October 14, 1986. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
