AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING AND ENACTING A NEW CODE FOR THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA; ~PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF CERTAIN <br />ORDINANCES NOT INCLgDED THEREIN; PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE <br />VIOLATION THEREOF; PROVIDING FOR THE MANNER OF AMENDING SUCH <br />CODE; AND PROVIDING WHEN SUCH CODE AND THIS ORDINANCE SHALL <br />BECOME EFFECTIVE. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of <br />Virginia, as follows: <br /> <br />Section 1. <br /> <br />Portsmouth, <br /> <br /> The Code entitled "Code of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia (1988)," published by Municipal Code Corporation <br />consisting of Chapters 1 through 40, each inclusive, is <br />adopted. <br /> <br />Section 2. Section 1-1 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> Virginia (1988), shall read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 1-1: How Code designated and cited. <br /> <br /> The ordinances embraced in this and the following <br />chapters and sections shall constitute and be designated the <br />"Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (1988)" and may be <br />so cited. Such code may also be cited as "Portsmouth City <br />Code (1988)." <br /> <br />Section 3. <br /> <br /> Ail ordinances of a general and permanent nature enacted <br />on or before September 13, 1988, and not included in the Code <br />or recognized and continued in force by reference therein, are <br />repealed. <br /> <br />Section 4. <br /> <br /> The repeal provided for herein shall not affect any <br />ordinance or resolution promising or guaranteeing the payment <br />of money for the City, or authorizing the issuance of any <br />bonds of the City, or any evidence of the City's indebtedness, <br />or any contract or obligation assumed by the City, nor shall <br />such repeal affect any ordinances or resolutions of the <br />Council not in conflict or inconsistent with the provisions of <br />the Code; nor shall it affect any right or franchise conferred <br />by any ordinance or resolution of the Council on any person or <br />corporation; nor shall it affect any prosecution, suit or <br /> <br /> <br />
