AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1988, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 4-32(C), THEREOF, <br />PERTAINING TO ANIMALS AND FOWL. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the Cit~ of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 4-32(c) of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1988, be amended and reordained to read <br />as follows: <br /> <br />Section 4-32. Impoundment when running at large without leash <br /> or muzzle. <br /> <br /> (c) Duration, redemption. Every dog impounded <br />pursuant to subsection (a) of this section shall be penned for <br />five (5) days, except that any i~pounded dog whose owner is <br />identified shall be held for an additional five (5) days. <br />Such period shall commence on the day immediately following <br />the day the dog is initially confined in the Portsmouth Humane <br />Society facility. During the period of impoundment, the dog <br />may be redeemed by the owner by paying to the attendant at the <br />dog pound the sum of twelve dollars ($12.00) for the first day <br />and five dollars ($5.00) for each additional day or any part <br />thereof to cover the actual expenses incurred in keeping the <br />dog impounded and by exhibit, lng to the person in charge of the <br />dog pound the receipt for the license tax required to be paid <br />by this chapter. All such impounding fees shall be paid over <br />to the city treasurer monthly. <br /> <br />2.
