52 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN <br />APPLICATION FOR A CHESAPEAKE BAY YOUTH CONSERVATION CORPS <br />GRANT TO CONDUCT SHORELINE CLEAN-UP. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Conservation and Historic <br />Resources of the Commonwealth of Virginia has established the <br />Chesapeake Bay Youth Conservation Corps to reverse the <br />advancing decline in the health of the Chesapeake Bay; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth, Virginia is eligible to <br />submit a grant application for State funds to conduct <br />restoration efforts along its shoreline; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the clean-up of these tidal estuaries and th9 <br />public education of citizens will improve the environmental <br />quality and appearance of the shoreline and contribute to the <br />preservation of the Chesapeake Bay's ecosystem. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth that the Council does hereby endorse the <br />application to be submitted for a Chesapeake Bay Youth <br />Conservation Corps grant of Fifty-two Thousand, One Hundred <br />Twelve ($52,112) Dollars to fund an educational/work <br />experience program involving fifteen (15) youth participants <br />and two (2) program leaders to assess and clean-up shoreline <br />estuaries and to create artificial reefs ouE of used tires for <br />the off-shore research project being conducted by the Virginia <br />Institute of Marine Sciences. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Manager be, and he <br />hereby is, authorized to submit said application for the <br />grant, certifying compliance by the City of Portsmouth with <br />the appropriate regulations governing the administration and <br />use of there funds. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held June 26, 1990. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
