38 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE VIRGINIA TRANSPORTATION BOARD'S <br />PLAN FOR THE LEE AVENUE - VIRGINIA AVENUE CONNECTOR AND FOR <br />THE REIMBURSEMENT BY THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION <br />FOR THE CITY'S EXPENDITURES FOR SAME. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />has determined that the health, safety and welfare of the <br />citizens of the City of Portsmouth require improvements to Lee <br />Avenue and Virginia Avenue due to the recent opening of <br />portions of the Western Freeway; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Transportation Board has agreed in <br />conjunction with the connection of the Western Freeway to <br />Interstate 1-664, to certain improvements to the Port Norfolk <br />area to facilitate the flow of traffic and which will relocate <br />Virginia Avenue between Woodrow Street and Cleveland Street <br />and will provide for better access for truck traffic to and <br />from the Portsmouth Marine Terminal; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia hereby endorses that plan of the <br />Virginia Transportation Board for the Lee Avenue - Virginia <br />Avenue Connector with the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation reimbursing the City of Portsmouth for its <br />expenses incurred in these improvements; <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is <br />authorized to enter an agreement with the Virginia Department <br />of Transportation for the construction of the Lee Avenue - <br />Virginia Avenue Connector, which agreement will provide for <br />the City to complete the desi~9~a~d construction of same with <br />100% of the City's cbst of thl§' ~r~j'~ct to be reimbursed by <br />the Vir§lnia Department of Transportation. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held on June 25, 1991. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
