Where investigation discloses that unusual or extraordinary <br />hazards require more stringent means of protection, the <br />director shall have the authority to require the installation <br />of the same. The director shall in all cases specify the <br />fa~ts constituting the greater hazard found to require more <br />stringent protective measures. The more stringenn protective <br />measures shall be related to such unusual or extraordinary <br />hazards and shall be no more burdensome than is reasonably <br />necessary to alleviate or guard against such hazards. The <br />director shall specify in writing to the owner the manner in <br />which the more stringent protective measures alleviate or <br />guard against the unusual or extraordinary hazards. <br /> <br />Section 38-172. Potable connection to boilers. <br /> <br /> Potable water connections to boilers shall be made <br />through an air gap or provided with an approved backflow <br />preventer. Potable water by-pass arrangements on boilers <br />shall be protected by a backflow preventer. If continuous <br />service is required, two (2) backflow preventers of the same <br />type may be installed in parallel. <br /> <br />Section 38-174. Protective devices for fire service systems. <br /> <br /> (c) Systems with direct connections to the waterworks, <br />which have an auxiliary supply within one thousand seven <br />hundred (1,700) feet of the pumper connection, must provide an <br />air gap, a reduced pressure principle backflow preventer or a <br />double-gate/double-check valve assembly, depending on the <br />quality of the auxiliary supply. <br /> <br /> (d) Systems having direct connections to the waterworks <br />and interconnections with auxiliary supplies such as pumps <br />taking suction from raw water sources, exposed storage tanks, <br />industrial water supplies, connections to unapproved <br />groundwaters, or where antifreeze or other chemicals are added <br />must provide an air gap or a reduced pressure principle <br />backflow preventer. <br /> <br />Section 38-176. <br /> <br />Backflow preventer between hydrant and hose <br />used to flush new water mains, storm drains, <br />and sewers. <br /> <br /> A backflow preventer device between hydrant and hose <br />shall be installed before using a hose for flushing new water <br />mains, storm drains, and sewers. <br /> <br />Section 38-177. <br /> <br />Backflow preventer for Irrigation and <br />sprinkler systems. <br /> <br /> (b) Systems having direct connections to waterworks <br />serving lawn sDrinkler or irrigation systems must provide an <br />approved air gap, pressure vacuum breaker or a reduced <br />pressure principle backflow preventer.
