1992-72 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 20 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1988, BY AMENDING SECTION 20-84 AND B~ <br />REPEALING SECTION 20-85(c) THEREOF PERTAINING TO TELEPHONE AND <br />TELEGRAPH POLE AND CONDUIT TAXES. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 20-84 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1988, be amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 20-84. Telegraph companies. <br /> <br /> Telegraph companies doing business in the city and <br />engaged in transmitting or receiving messages to and from <br />points in the state excepting, however, telegrams sent to or <br />received by the governments of the United States or of the <br />Commonwealth, or their officers or agents, shall be divided <br />into two (2) classes, namely: <br /> <br />(1) <br /> <br />Telegraph companies doing business in the city <br />and having fifty (50) or more offices in the <br />Commonwealth shall be placed in the first class, <br />and shall pay a license tax of one hundred <br />eighty dollars (S180.00) in addition to any other <br />tax on the assessed value of their property. <br /> <br />(2) <br /> <br />Telegraph companies doing business in the city and <br />having less than fifty (50) offices in the <br />Commonwealth shall be placed ia the second class and <br />shall pay a license tax of fifty dollars (S50.00) in <br />addition to any other tax on the assessed value of <br />their property. <br /> <br /> 2. That Section 20-85(c) of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, is hereby repealed. <br /> <br /> 3. That this ordinance shall take effect on the date of <br />its adoption. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held on August 25, 1992. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
