26 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD CUTTER <br />LEGARE (WMEC 912). <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the United States Coast Guard Cutter Legare <br />(WMEC 912) was formally commissioned in the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, on October 4, 1990; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth is the home port for the <br />Legare; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Legare has adopted William E. Waters Junior <br />High School located in the City of Portsmouth, Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Legare through its Unselfish and dedicated <br />crew members have given generously of their time and intellect <br />to the students of William E. Waters Junior High School by <br />sponsoring a tutorial program, field trips, field day sports, <br />a ghost ship event at Portside, and by giving quarterly <br />citizenship awards; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Legare's crew members serve as positive role <br />models for the students at Willi'am E. Waters Junior High <br />School and other young people with whom they interact; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has reaped the benefits <br />of more and better motivated students and more responsible <br />young citizens from the efforts of the Legare's crew members; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Legare's crew members have participated in <br />various programs which promote and protect local interests <br />including the kick-off of the Tidewater Coast Watch Program <br />and the Tidewater Area Combined Federal Campaign. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, ~BE IT RESOLVED by the CoUncil of the City <br />of Po'rtsmouth, Virginia, that this Council expresses its <br />appreciation to the crew members of the Legare and hereby <br />adopts the United States Coast Guard Cutter Legare (WMEC 912) <br />and all of its crew whose efforts protect and promote local <br />interests and who serve as positive role models for the young <br />citizens of our City. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held on February 11, 1992. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />~ty Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
