89 A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE BEAZLEY FOUNDATION ON FUNDING THE DENTAL PROGRAMS FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH. WHEREAS, in 1951 the Beaztey Foundation established a city dental program for the children of Portsmouth, Virginia; and WHEREAS, in 1976 the Beazley Foundation supplied a new building for the city dental program and all necessary equipment and materials and was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program; and WHEREAS, in 1979 the Dental Clinic became part of the State Health Department with the Beazley Foundation agreeing to fund the program as before while relinquishing day-to-day operation to the State Health Department; and WHEREAS, in 1989, budget shortfalls threatened to close the City Dental Clinic, and the Beazley Foundation, in January of 1991 stepped in and funded the entire City Dental Program; and WHEREAS, in 1991 the Beazley Foundation continued to fund the Dental Clinic through grants; and WHEREAS, in 1991, the Beazley Foundation funded a mobile dental trailer to establish an additional school dental program treat children in the schools; and to WHEREAS, the Beazley Foundation has generously agreed to fund both of the dental programs for the 1992-1993 fiscal year; and WHEREAS, distinguished community. the Beazley Foundation's accomplishments have it as one who has successfully met the needs of our NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT Portsmouth, Virginia, that appreciation for and pride Foundation. RESOLVED by the Council of the City of the Council does hereby express its in the achievements of the Beazley BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this Council and that a copy be presented to the Beazley Foundation in recognition of their achievements.
