10 A RESOLUTION ENDORSING A TREE PLANTING AND INSTALLATION PROJECT AND THE APPLICATION OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH FOR AWARD OF A GRANT FROM THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY ADMINISTERED BY THE U. S. SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION. WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Forestry is currently accepting proposals for tree installation programs administered by the U. S. Small Business Administration; and WHEREAS, the City's Department of Parks and Recreation has filed an application for a grant under said Program; and WHEREAS, this grant will provide funding for the planting of approximately 201 trees at the proposed site of the new Churchland Fire Station, 8th and Jefferson Streets Playground, City Park, Towne Point Road overpass median, Byers Avenue and Beaton Street medians, and portions of Lindsay Avenue, Beech Street, Downes Street, Killian Avenue, Maple Avenue, Belafonte Drive, and Cavalier Boulevard. W/qEREAS, in addition, all of the citizens of the City will share in the environmental and beautification benefits of the Program upon award of this grant. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, hereby endorses this project and the purposes of the U. S. Small Business Administration by supporting the application for funding submitted on behalf of the City of Portsmouth, and agrees to undertake the fulfillment of all of the grant's requirements should the City receive such award. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and hereby is, directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Virginia Department of Forestry for inclusion as part of the City's Grant Proposal Application under the Program.
