68 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION URGING THAT THE STATE'S DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ADOPT THE PENDING CHANGES TO THE VIRGINIA <br />UNIFORM STATEWIDE BUILDING CODE WHICH WOULD REQUIRE THE USE OF <br />LOW WATER CONSUMING DEVICES. <br /> WHEREAS, localities of the Hampuon Roads Region have faced <br />wauer supply shortages and have a taken variety of measures uo <br />address chat shortage; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth is aware that the state's <br />Department of Housing and Community Developmenu is considering <br />the adoption in 1994 of further changes to the Virginia uniform <br />Statewide Building Code; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, these changes would require uhat iow wauer <br /> consumption devices be used in new construction; and <br /> WHEREAS, the changes are based on changes co uhe Building <br /> Officials and Code Administrauors International Incorporated <br /> (BOCA) Building Code and the Council of American Building <br /> Officials %CABO) One and Two Family Dwelling code that <br /> address requirements for low wacer consumpcion devices; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is believed that these changes to the Virginia <br /> Uniform Statewide Buildinq Code are particularly impormant mo <br /> the ability of the region7s local governmenms to maximize uheir <br /> ability to provide a safe and reliable water supply to their <br /> citizens. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br /> of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the state's Department of Housing <br /> and Community Development is urged to adopt the proposed <br /> changes to the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code to <br /> require the use of low water consumption devices in new <br /> construction. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> Virginia, at a meeting held on December 14, 1993. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
