AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 40 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988), BY AMENDING SECTION 40-61.2 AND <br />TABLE 40-61.1-2 THEREOF, PERTAINING TO PROJECTING SIGNS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 40-61.2 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia (1988), be amended and reordained by <br />adding Subsection (10.1) thereto to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. <br /> <br />40-61..2. Sign conditions applicable to tables <br />40-61.1-1 and 40-61.1-2. <br /> <br />(i0,1) <br /> <br />Projecting signs in the Downtown and <br />Historic Zoning Districts, shall extend <br />no more than six (6) feet from a building <br />to which they are attached and shall be <br />perpendicular to the building. Such <br />signs shall maintain a minimum vertical <br />distance of eight (8) feet between the <br />bottom of the sign and the grade directly <br />below the bottom of the sign. Projecting <br />signs shall not exceed twelve (12) square <br />feet in area per face and shall be <br />non-illuminated, constructed of natural <br />materials, and consist primarily of <br />graphics or symbols with a minimum of <br />lettering. Projecting signs located <br />within the public right-of-way shall <br />comply with the provisions of Section <br />32-8 pertaining to street encroachments. <br /> <br /> 2. That Table 40-61.1-2 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia (1988), be amended and reordained to <br />permit projecting signs in the Downtown Public, Office, <br />Commercial, Mixed Use and Central Business zoning subdistricts, <br />after the issuance of a Certificate of Compliance (CC), subject <br />to Condition (10.1) contained in Section 40-61.2. <br /> <br /> 3. That this ordinance shall take effect on the date of <br />its adoption. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held on July 26, 1994. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
