7 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION OF OASIS COMMISSION ON <br />SOCIAL MINISTRY OF PORTSMOUTH AND CHESAPEAKE FOR DESIGNATION AS <br />A CHARITABLE AND BENEVOLENT ORGANIZATION WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF <br />SECTION 6 (a) (6) OF ARTICLE X OF THE CONSTITUTION OF VIRGINIA. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 30-19.04 of the Code <br />of Virginia, 1950, as amended, the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, held a Public Hearing on Tuesday, January <br />25, 1994, to consider the application for exemption from taxes <br />filed on behalf of OASIS Commission on Social Ministry of <br />Portsmouth and Chesapeake for property located at 1020 High <br />Street, Portsmouth, Virginia, and used by the applicant <br />exclusively for charitable and benevolent purposes on a <br />non-profit basis as set forth in Section 58.1-3650 of the Code <br />of Virginia, 1950, as amended; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />has examined and considered the provisions of Section <br />30-19.04(B) of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, with <br />respect to the petition of OASIS Commission on Social Ministry <br />of Portsmouth and Chesapeake and determined that the assessed <br />value of the property owned by OASIS Commission on Social <br />Ministry of Portsmouth and Chesapeake, in Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />is $57,610.00 which would produce tax revenue in the amount of <br />$760.44 for the current tax year. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, supports the request of OA~SIS <br />Commission on Social Ministry of Portsmouth and Chesapeake <br />non-profit organization, for designation as a charitable and <br />benevolent organization within the context of Section 6 (a) (6) <br />of Article X of the Constitution of Virginia and that its <br />property located at 1020 High Street in the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, owned by it and used by it exclusively for charitable <br />and benevolent purposes on a non-profit basis, be determined to <br />be exempt from taxation in accordance with Section 58.1-3650 of <br />the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she <br />hereby is, directed to forward copies of this Resolution to <br />State Senators L. Louise Lucas and Frederick M. Quayle and <br />Delegates William S. Moore, Jr., and Kenneth R.
