euthanized in a manner prescribed or approved by the state <br />veterinarian and its head sent to the division of consolidated <br />laboratory services of the State Department of General Services <br />for evaluation. <br /> <br /> (b) When any potentially rabid animal, other than a dog <br />or cat, exposes or may have exposed a person to rabies through <br />a bite, or through saliva or central nervous system tissue, in <br />a fresh open wound or mucous membrane, that animal shall be <br />confined at the discretion the Director of Public Health in a <br />manner approved by the health department or humanely euthanized <br />as provided in Section 3.1-796.96 of the Code of Virginia and <br />its head sent to the Division of Consolidated Laboratory <br />Services of the Department of General Services or the local <br />health department for evaluation. <br /> <br /> (c) When any animal, other than a dog or cat, is exposed <br />to rabies through a bite, or through saliva or central nervous <br />system tissue, in a fresh open wound or mucous membrane, by an <br />animal believed to be afflicted with rabies, that newly exposed <br />animal shall be confined at the discretion of the Director of <br />Public Health in a manner approved by the health department or <br />humanely euthanized as provided in Section 3.1-796.96 of the <br />Code of Virginia. <br /> <br />Sec. 4-100. Report of rabid, etc., animals. <br /> <br /> It shall be the duty of any person owning or having <br />custody of or any person having knowledge of the existence of <br />any animal known to have rabies or known to have been exposed <br />to rabies or which shall have bitten any person, in addition to <br />the other duties imposed in this article, to immediately report <br />such matter to the director of public health. <br /> <br />Sec. 4-102. <br /> <br />Concealing or harboring animal <br />to prevent its destruction or confinement <br />under article. <br /> <br /> It shall be unlawful for any person to conceal or harbor <br />any dog, cat or other animal to prevent its destruction, <br />confinement or quarantine in accordance with this article. <br /> <br />2. That Section 4-98(e) be repealed. <br /> <br /> 3. That this ordinance shall take effect on the date of <br />its adoption. <br /> <br /> <br />
