45 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ENDORSING A DEMONSTRATION STREET TREE REPLACEMENT <br />PROJECT AND THE APPLICATION OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH FOR AWARD OF <br />A GRANT FROM THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY TO BE <br />ADMINISTERED BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE FOREST <br />SERVICE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Forestry is currently <br />accepting proposals for Urban and Community Assistance Grants <br />programs administered by the United States Department of <br />Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City's Department of Parks and Recreation has <br />filed an application for a grant under the said program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the grant will provide funding for the purchase of <br />approximately 80-100 replacement street trees throughout the City, <br />and for the involvement in the actual planting and establishment <br />care by interested citizens and community group volunteers; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in addition, all of the citizens of the City will <br />share in the environmental and beautification benefits of this <br />program to economically replace street trees in neighborhoods, <br />upon award of a program grant. <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, hereby endorses this worthwhile project and <br />the purposes of the USDA Forest Service by supporting the <br />application for funding submitted on behalf of the City of <br />Portsmouth and agrees to undertake the fulfillment of all of the <br />grant requirements should the City receive such award. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be and she hereby <br />is directed to forward a copy of this Resolution as part of the <br />City's Grant Proposal Application under the Program. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the City Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held on June 13, 1995. <br /> <br /> Teste: <br /> <br /> <br /> City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
