60 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF TIMBER AT BIDE-A-WEE <br />GOLF COURSE TO SWAIN AND TEMPLE LOGGING COMPANY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the timber lands at Bide-a-Wee Golf Course are <br />overgrown so as to restrict the healthy development of turf <br />and desirable trees; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation has <br />consulted with representatives of the Virginia Department of <br />Forestry, the City Arborist, the Bide-a-Wee Golf Course <br />Professional, the Golf Course Superintendent, and Gerald <br />Frazier, Consulting Forester, and all agree that the proposed <br />selection of trees to be harvested is in the best interest of <br />the golf facility and the health and beauty of the remaining <br />trees; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this practice of selective harvesting and sale <br />of timber at golf courses has been successfully accomplished <br />at golf courses in Virginia and surrounding states; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation has <br />requested proposals in accordance with Section 2.09 of the <br />Charter of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, for the <br />selective harvesting and sale of timber to a timber <br />harvesting company and has determined the proposal of Swain <br />and Temple Logging Company to be in the best interest of the <br />City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the, Department of Parks and Recreation will <br />prepare the contract and administer the sale and careful <br />harvesting so as to best protect Bide-a-Wee Golf Course from <br />damage from the timber harvest and subsequent clean-up <br />activities. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the harvesting and sale of <br />selected trees on the Bide-a-Wee Golf Course property by the <br />Swain and Temple Logging company be, and hereby is, <br />authorized as being in the best interest of the City of <br />Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held September 12, 1995. <br /> <br /> Teste: <br /> <br /> <br /> City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
