<br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION OF GIRLS INCORPORATED,
<br />CENTER FOR YOUTH OF SOUTHWEST HAMPTON ROADS, FOR DESIGNATION AS A
<br />CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF SECTION 6 (a) (6) OF
<br />ARTICLE X OF THE CONSTITUTION OF VIRGINIA.

<br /> WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 30-19.04 of the Code of
<br />Virginia, 1950, as amended, the Council of the City of Portsmouth,
<br />Virginia held a Public Hearing on Tuesday, December 13, 1994, to
<br />consider the application for exemption from taxes filed on behalf
<br />of Girls Incorporated, Center for Youth of Southwest Hampton Roads,
<br />for real property located at 5815, 5851 and 5901 Portsmouth
<br />Boulevard, Portsmouth, Virginia, and used by the applicant
<br />exclusively for charitable purposes on a non-profit basis as set
<br />forth in Section 58.1-3650 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as
<br />amended; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, VirgInia, has
<br />examined and considered the provisions of Section 30-19.04 (B) of
<br />the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, and the questions posed by
<br />same with respect to the petition of Girls Incorporated, Center for
<br />Youth of Southwest Hampnon Roads. The assessed value for the
<br />property in question, owned by the organization requesting
<br />exemption, is $197,460.00 and has a property tax of $2,606.40 for
<br />the current tax year.

<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of
<br />Portsmouth, Virginia, supports the request of Girls Incorporated,
<br />Center for Youth of Southwest Hampmon Roads, a non-profit
<br />organization, for designation as a charitable organization within
<br />the context of Section 6 (a) (6) of Article X of the Constitution
<br />of Virginia, and that its real property located at 5815, 5851 and
<br />5901 Portsmouth Boulevard, in the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />owned by it and used by it exclusively for charitable purposes on a
<br />non-profit basis, be determined to be exempt from taxation in
<br />accordance with Section 58.1-3650 et seq., of the Code of Virginia,
<br />1950, as amended.

<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereby
<br />is, directed to forward copies of this Resolution to State Senators
<br />L. Louise Lucas and Frederick M. Quayle and Delegaues Kenneth R.
<br />Melvin and William S. Moore, Jr.
<br />
<br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at
<br />a meeting held January 10, 1995.
