c. A class is a group of positions (or one position) that has similar duties and responsibilities, requires like qualifi- cations, and can be equitably compensated by the same salary range. d. The class title is the official designation or name of the class as stated in the Alphabetical Listing of Job Titles. It shall be used on all personnel records and actions. e. The position code number is the five-digit number which identifies a group of occupational classes by EEO Code, the department, and the specific position. A list of position code numbers will be maintained in the Department of Per- sonnel with the official copy of the Position Classification Plan. SECTION 3. POSITION CLASSIFICATION PLAN All officers and regular full-time and regular part-time employees of the City shall be classified and graded. The com- pensation of each classified employee shall be determined accord- ing to the Salary Schedule portion and other sections of this ordinance. The City Manager may authorize variations in the application of this section, and may make adjustments as needed. a. Unclassified Positions Unclassified positions shall consist of: (1) Officials elected by the citizens and persons appointed to fill positions within the elective offices. (2) The members of boards and commissions, the City Manager, the City Clerk, the City Attorney, the City Real Estate Assessor, and persons appointed by judges of the Circuit Court; (3) Employees of the School Board; (4) Persons temporarily employed in a professional or scientific capacity or to conduct a special inquiry, investigation, examinantion, or installation, if the Council or the Manager certifies than such employment is temporary and than the work should not be performed by employees in the classified positions. b. Classified Positions Classified positions shall be comprised of all employees, officers, and positions not specifically designated in the preceding section as unclassified. -2-
