AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 35 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY AMENDING SECTION 35-442 THEREOF <br />PERTAINING TO THE TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 35-442 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia (1988) be amended and reordained to read <br />as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 35-442. Levied; amount. <br /> <br /> There is hereby imposed and levied on each transient a tax <br />equivalent to five and one-half (5 1/2) percent of the total <br />amount paid for lodging by or for any such transient to any <br />hotel. <br /> <br /> 2.
