When an employee is promoted between ranks, the employee will <br /> receive an increase of 10% of the former salary. An <br /> employee's base salary may not be less than the minimum or <br /> more than the maximum for the position. <br /> <br />d. New Employees <br /> <br /> All newly hired employees will be considered probationary for <br /> the first 6 months of employment, except for sworn police and <br /> fire employees, Communications Dispatcher I, Communications <br /> Dispatcher II, Communications Dispatcher Supervisor, Social <br /> Worker, Senior Social Worker, Social Worker Supervisor, Child <br /> Protective Services Worker I, Child Protective Services <br /> Worker II, Employment Services Worker, Senior Employment <br /> Services Worker, Senior Employment Services Supervisor and <br /> Employment Services Supervisor who will continue to serve a <br /> 12 month probationary period. <br /> <br /> An employee may be hired up uo the middle range of the <br /> classification without the written approval of the City <br /> Manager or his designee. Requests for exceptions must be <br /> included on the Employee Selection Review Form for positions <br /> covered under Administrative Policy #22, entitled Employee <br /> Selection Review Procedure, and on the referral form for <br /> positions not designated under thaE directive. <br /> <br />e. Promotions <br /> <br /> When an employee is promoted, the pay must be within the <br /> range of the new position. The rate of pay will be <br /> recommended by the Department Head and included on the <br /> Employee Selection Review Form for positions covered under <br /> Administrative Policy #22 and on the Referral Form for <br /> positions not designated under this policy. This decision <br /> may be based on criteria such as, but not limited to, the <br /> employee's current rate of pay, length of service, the <br /> difference in the grades of the two positions, and the <br /> mid-point of the new range. <br /> <br />f. Demotions <br /> <br /> An employee involunuarily or voluntarily demoted to a lower <br /> grade shall receive compensation according to the grade into <br /> which the employee is placed. The Director of Personnel will <br /> designate the salary with final approval of the City Manager <br /> or his designee. An employee will not retain the same compen- <br /> sation that was received prior to the demotion, or be <br /> compensated at a rate less than the minimum salary for the <br /> grade to which demoted, nor may the maximum compensation for <br /> the position be exceeded. <br /> <br />g. Transfers <br /> <br /> "Transfer" shall mean lateral re-assignment of an employee <br /> from one class to the same class, or to another position of <br /> the same grade. Such transfer may occur within or between <br /> departments. Any employee transferred to another class of <br /> <br /> <br />
