c. Part-time Employment

A position is defined as part-time when the work schedule is
less than 40 hours per work week, and the funds for payment
are identified in the budget as part-time.

The hours per work week for an individual employed as
part-time are limited to 32. Any additional hours must be
approved in advance by the Director of Personnel and are to
be the exception. Benefits are not available to part-time
employees.

The salary of part-time employees shall be determined by
reference to the salary grade to which the employee's
position classification is assigned. The part-time employee's
salary shalI be such proportionate part of the full-time
annual salary as reflects the hours worked by the part-time
employee, at the minimum range. Part-time employees shall
receive salary increases only when the minimum range for the
established grade increases. Exceptions to this may be
authorized by the City Manager.

d. Temporary Employment

A position is defined as temporary when it is for a specific
limited time without regard to the number of scheduled hours.
These positions are not entitled to benefits, are paid from
funds designated as part-time, and paid based on minimum
range for the graded position. Increases would only be
granted if the minimum range wage increases for that grade.

e. Creation of Job/Position Descriptions

Prior to the establishment of a new position, the Department
Head involved shall complete a job description questionnaire
covering the duties, responsibilities, and minimum qualifica-
tions for the proposed position. The Department of Personnel
shall assign the position to one of the job titles in the
Position Classification Plan. If a suitable job description
is needed, the Director of Personnel in cooperation with the
department shall develop a new job description and title for
consideration by the City Manager.

f. Official Copy of the Position Classification Plan

The Director of Personnel shall be responsible for maintain-
ing an official copy of the Position Classification Plan.
The official copy shall include the Alphabetical Listing of
Job Titles, the job descriptions, plus all amendments
thereto.

-3-
