AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 38 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY AMENDING SECTIONS 38-82, 38-117(a) AND 38-118 THEREOF, PERTAINING TO WATER METER AND SEWAGE DISPOSAL RATES. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: 1. That Sections 38-82, 38-117(a) and 38-118 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (1988) be amended and reordained to read as follows: Sec. 38-82. Meter charges. The following meter charges, based on meter size, shall be paid by water consumers for each premises the occupants o£which take water from the service pipe: Meter Size Charge Per (inches) Month 5/8 .......................... $ 5.00 3/4 ............................. 6.00 1 .................................. 8.00 1 1/2 ........................... 15.50 2 ................................. 25.50 3 ................................. 40.50 4 ................................. 75.50 6 ................................ 163.00 8 ................................ 250.50 10 ............................... $375.00 Section 38-117. Rate. (a) Charges for the disposal of sewage discharged into the City sewer system will be based upon the water consumed on the premises as measured by meters used for this purpose at the rate of $1.4973 per one thousand (1,000) gallons or $1.12 per one hundred (100) cubic feet. The minimum charge for such service shall be one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) per month. Section 38-118. Charge where service available but not used. The owner, lessee, tenant or other occupant of any dwelling or other structure fronting on any street in which sewer mains have been laid and to whom the sewage disposal system of the city is available for use, although the premises in question are not connected with the city sewer, shall pay to the city the rates and charges as set forth in section 38-117.
