R-98-23 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN APPLICATION BY THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH TO THE FEDERAL PUBLIC WORKS ECONOMIC <br />DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION FOR A GRANT TO IMPROVE <br />GREENVfOOD DRIVE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth's plans for the redevelopment of the <br />Fairwood Homes area will require expenditure of an estimated $3 million for public <br />purposes, including roadway and related improvements to Greenwood Drive; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City has already appropriated the funds for the roadway <br />improvements as part of its Capital Improvement Program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City is eligible to apply for a grant from the Public Works <br />Economic Development Administration (PWEDA) in the amount of $2 million for such <br />infrastructure improvements, provided that the City will commit to a matching <br />contribution of $1 million. <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that it hereby commits that $1 million of the funds previously <br />appropriated for the Greenwood Drive improvements will be used for such purpose <br />should the City's grant application be approved, and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager be, and he hereby is, <br />authorized to execute such documents and to take such additional steps as are necessary <br />to complete the application process for the subject grant. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held on <br />May 12, 1998. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
