Wynne <br /> October 9, 1998 <br />The Honorable James W:Holley, III <br />Mayor <br />City of Portsmouth <br />Post Office Box 820 <br />Portsmouth, Virginia 23705 <br /> <br />Dear Jim:: <br /> <br /> This transmits a request by Surry County to join the Hampton Roads Partnership. <br />As further explained in the attached letter, Surry is seeking membership in the Partnership <br />because of the geographic and economic rehtionships arid other communities of interest <br />Surry shares with the Hampton Roads localities". <br /> <br /> Since July 1998, Surry County has been a member of the Hampton Roads <br />Planning District Commission (HRPDC). In fact, Surry is the only member of the <br />HRPDC that is not yet a member of the Hampton Roads Partnership. Moreover, it is <br />difficult to see any material negatives to .admitting Surry into the Partnership. <br />Consequently, in its September. 4, 1998 meeting, the HRP Executive Committee <br />approved Surry's request subject to ratification by the Partnership's member City <br />Councils and County Boards of Supervisors. <br /> <br /> Please find enclosed a draft Resolution for your consideration In order to <br />provide a prompt response to this request for membership, we ask that you act on the <br />Resolution by November 15, 1998.
