AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY AMENDING SECTION 2-790 THEREOF <br />PERTAINING TO THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE COMMUNITY CRIMINAL <br />JUSTICE BOARD. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 2-790 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (1988) <br />be amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 2-790. CommuniW criminal justice board. <br /> <br /> There is hereby established by the city council a board to be known as the <br />community criminal justice board. The appointments to the board shall be made by the <br />city council. The board shall not exceed fifteen members and shall include <br />representatives of the following: a judge of the general district court; a circuit court <br />judge; a juvenile and domestic relations district court judge; the chief magistrate; a <br />member from the city council or the city manager or a deputy city manager appointed by the city <br />council the chief of police; an attorney for the commonwealth; a public defender and/or <br />an attorney who is experienced in the defense of criminal matters; a sheriff or regional <br />jail administrator responsible for jails serving those involved in the local pretrial services <br />and community-based probation program; a representative of local education, a <br />representative of the community services board, and up to five (5) citizens of the city. <br />The board shall possess the powers and duties granted to it by Sec. 53-180 et seq., of the <br />Code of Virginia. <br /> <br />2. That this ordinance shall take effect on the date of its adoption. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held on <br />October 10, 2000. <br /> <br /> Teste: <br /> <br /> <br /> City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
