R-01-16 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A REDUCTION IN THE OFF.STREET <br />PARKING REQUIREMENTS FOR A HOUSING FOR THE ELDERLY <br />APARTMENT PROJECT AT 253 CONSTITUTION AVENUE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the applicant, Regency Developmem Associates, proposes to <br />convert the former Shea Terrace Elementary School at 253 Constitution Avenue into 21 <br />apartments for the elderly; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the applicant has requested that the required off-street parking be <br />reduced from 32 to 27 parking spaces, as permitted by Section 40-45.1 of the City Code; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, satisfactory assurances have been provided to City Council that <br />such housing will be restricted only to individuals aged 62 or older; and that no units will <br />be occupied by persons without regard to age; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in view of the location of the proposed project, the economic status <br />of the anticipated occupants and other pertinent considerations, a reduction in the <br />required number of off-street parking spaces will adequate off-street parking for <br />occupants and visitors. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the off-street parking requirement for the subject project at 253 <br />Constitution Avenue is hereby reduced from 32 spaces to 27. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the premises shall not be used for any other <br />purpose other than housing for the elderly until compliance with any parking <br />requirements applying to the new use has been reached. <br /> <br /> ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held <br />on February 27, 2001. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
