R-01-65 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION 0F FRIENDS OF <br />CHEVRA THELIM, INC., FOR DESIGNATION AS A HISTORICAL AND <br />CULTURAL ORGANIZATION WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF SECTION 6 (a) (6) <br />0F ARTICLE X OF THE CONSTITUTION OF VIRGINIA. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 30-19.04 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, <br />as amended, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia held a Public Hearing on <br />Tuesday, September 25, 2001, after published notice in accordance with said Code <br />section, to consider the application filed on behalf of Friends of Chevra Thelim, Inc., for <br />exemption from taxes for real property located at 607 Effmgham Street, Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, and used by the applicant exclusively for historical and cultural purposes on a <br />non-profit basis as set forth in Section 58.1-3650 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as <br />amended; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the subject property has an assessed value of $53,120 and is subject <br />to annual real estate taxes of $754; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia has examined and <br />considered the provisions of Section 30-19.04 (B) of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as <br />amended, with respect to the petition of Friends of Chevra Thelim, Inc. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, supports the request of Friends of Chevra Thelim, Inc., a non-profit <br />organization, for designation as a historical and cultural organization within the context <br />of Section 6 (a) (6) of Article X of the Constitution of Virginia and that its real property <br />located at 607 Effingham Street, in the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, owned by it and <br />used by it exclusively for historical and cultural purposes on a non-profit basis, be <br />determined to be exempt from taxation in accordance with Section 58.1-3650 et seq., of <br />the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereby is, <br />directed to forward a copy of this resolution to each member of the Portsmouth <br />delegation to the General ASsembly. <br /> <br /> ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held <br />September 25,200I. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
